TRI's Child Development Center Focuses on Giving
March 16, 2016
Every year, for the entire month of February, public employees across the state of Oregon participate in the Governor’s Food Drive. The children attending the TRI-Child Development Center get right into the swing of things, collecting food, and helping fill the truck to help WOU meet its goals.
This annual event has become an important moment in the TRI-CDC that the children and the staff look forward to. The photos below show you why!
A little history of the food drive from the official State of Oregon website:
In the spring of 1979, Governor Atiyeh initiated Oregon Food Share, the first statewide food distribution network in the nation and the predecessor of the Oregon Food Bank Network, This was in response to federal cutbacks in food stamp allotments, now referred to as SNAP.
Then in 1982, Governor Atiyeh started the Governor's State Employees Food Drive, calling on every state agency to sponsor a food drive “to reduce the suffering of those without adequate food resources” and “to show that true Oregonians believe that we can and do help our friends and neighbors in need.”
All these decades later, the food drive is still in full
swing across the state, and the TRI Child Development Center is proud to have been a part of
Western Oregon University's efforts.
