April 11, 2016

Serra Acar, Ph.D.

Patricia Plasco, Ph.D.

TRI's Serra Acar, and Patricia Blasco, joined Oregon Department of Education's Mandy Stanley in a presentation titled:

Executive Function and Social Emotional Development: Understanding the Relationship.

This session provided families and early childhood professionals with activities and strategies that support components of Executive Function (EF) that relate to Social and Emotional development for children, birth to three, with diverse abilities.

Information was provided on how components can be identified, and strategies for teaching young children in across environments. Participants learned how to integrate key components of EF into everyday routines and activities.

Participants gained an understanding of EF and how it impacts a child’s social and emotional developmental trajectory based on research. They also examined, practiced and selected strategies to strengthen EF skills (self-regulation, working memory, inhibit/emotional control, shifting, planning and organizing) that impact child’s social and emotional development.
