Construction the Theme of CDC Summer Camp

"I knew the children would be mesmerized by all the equipment and the workers in their hard hats and tool belts," said Ingrid Amerson, Director of the TRI-Child Development Center (TRI-CDC). "So I thought, let's learn about the concept of construction."
Not just about buildings
To Amerson, construction is not just about buildings. It can be about constructing a play, a quilt, or even a meal.
So, the Summer Camp kiddos have been hard at work using their imaginations to create a variety of things with their hands and the tools around them.
Summer camp construction projects
They made catapults out of wooden blocks, clothespins, popsicle sticks, and water bottle caps. Using their catapults, they launched “warm and fuzzies” into the air and measured whose flew the farthest!
They made bread from scratch, built structures using toothpicks and marshmallows, and made a sign for their puppet theatre.
The children will also be making many trips to look at the construction site on campus where the new Richard Woodcock Education Center is being built. They will see all the hard work that goes into constructing a building from the ground up!
Turning lemons into lemonade
Many kudos to the staff at the CDC Summer Camp for turning what could have been seen as an annoyance into some very productive summer projects. Always looking for a learning opportunity!
