Project PIECE
Promoting Inclusion in Early Childhood Educators
The College of Education and The Research Institute at Western Oregon University (WOU) have been awarded a five-year grant to provide training and mentoring supports to under-represented early childhood educators to receive an initial teaching license resulting in a Bachelor's degree with an endorsement in early intervention/early childhood special education added at the graduate level.
The project provides substantial financial assistance (scholarships) to take classes and an iPad for the duration of the project. Courses are offered in the evening, during summer and on-line to facilitate a flexible schedule.
Who is involved?
Participants have an associate's degree or equivalent, and:
- Teach in Head Start, child care, Family Building Blocks, or Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education
- Want to teach young children with disabilities in inclusive early childhood settings
- Want early childhood faculty who support and mentor you as you move through the program
- Want to teach children and make a difference in the lives of young children and their families
34 students have been admitted into Project PIECE, with the first cohort beginning January 2014.
