Designing and Implementing a Student-Alumni Mentoring Program

Abstract

Western Oregon University (WOU) and Oregon State University (OSU) collaborated to implement student/alumni mentoring programs to help their underrepresented students develop networks and become more career-ready. This presentation shared with participants the successes and challenges each college went through in designing an in-person and online mentoring program. The outcomes of this presentation included strategies for creating and implementing mentoring programs, ways to recruit and maintain alumni mentors and student retention within the programs, assessment designs for evaluation, and online platforms for mentor/mentee databases and online mentoring programming.
