8:30am Keynote Address: Strengthening Your Coaching Skills with Real Talk

Open, honest, and authentic communication is the foundation of effective coaching. How can we strengthen our coaching skills and build upon the strengths of our program teams? And how do we move through challenges and barriers and rise to meet the needs of our youth and families?

Programs can choose when and how they wish to use their Program Team Time: year 5 sustainability planning, conference session debriefing, or whatever will best meet your continuous program improvement needs, including collaboration with other programs. Project Directors are responsible for communicating to their staff which “A” session to attend (1, 2, 3, or 4).

What is “intercultural relevancy”, and how can we be responsive to the diverse needs of our youth and families? This session includes conversations about cultural commonalities and differences and the opportunity to understand and practice new skills to address bias and meet the needs of your diverse communities.

Engaging families in your program can be challenging but is worth the investment of time, energy, and resources when you see the value in terms of student success. This session will explore best practices for improving and developing relationships with families. Learn to create a family-friendly environment, serve family needs, plan engagement activities, and solicit family input and leadership with Y4Y resources.

This session will provide information about evaluation planning and reporting timelines required for Year 5. There will also be information shared about the monitoring structure ODE uses. ODE will provide resources and clarification as well as opportunities for peer-to-peer dialogue. Highly recommended for Program Directors.
 9:30am B4 Trauma Informed Care: Practical Examples in a School Setting

This is an intermediate training which briefly outlines ACES, effects of PTSD, and other analyses of trauma for communities of color, immigrants, and families living in poverty, including how trauma psychologically, socially, and developmentally affects our clients. We will run through possible workplace triggers and compare models of delivery in school settings.

Come learn about how archery is safely taught in the after school setting: how to set up a safe range, prepare your students for archery, walk your students through their first shots, and safely run the range. This session will include lecture and demonstration followed by hands-on participation and Q&A. Appropriate for 21st CCLC programs serving 4th – 12th grade students.

Do you know what it takes to build an emotionally and physically safe space for youth? This interactive workshop will introduce participants to a variety of activities designed to support the community building process. Each participant receives a guidebook to support implementation of strategies learned during this session. Maximum 25 participants.

How do you enrich or build on existing partnerships to strengthen your program? This session will review Y4Y tools and resources designed to help out-of-school time programs develop and improve relationships with schools, community- and faith-based organizations, and other partners. Learn how to identify your needs, find partners, and create and maintain partnerships to sustain your program.

ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) is an Active Shooter Civilian Response Training for all organizations – informing citizens to participate in their own survival and lead others to safety. This session provides preparation and a plan for individuals and organizations on how to more proactively handle the threat of an aggressive intruder or active shooter event.

Participants will share ideas and have questions answered about using E-Z Reports for efficient program operation and reporting. We will explore the program’s powerful Reports functions and share how they can be used to more efficiently and effectively manage programs, monitor program operations, and share results with federal, state, and local audiences.

How do you prevent chaos in a youth environment without stifling youth’s positive energy? Youth need structure and clear limits in order to feel safe. Participants will analyze the level of structure in their program and practice identifying and maintaining clear limits. Each participant receives a guidebook to support implementation of strategies learned during this session. Maximum 25 participants.

Those with Science of Sport prior approval must sign up for both Part 1 & Part 2. Please wear comfortable clothing and plan to be active throughout the 4 hours of training. This session provides soccer Science of Sport teacher professional development for 21st CCLC programs. Those who decide to participate while at the conference must have trainer’s approval prior to the sessions. 
 1:30pm B16 Continuous Quality Improvement: An Overview and Opportunity to Reflect for Grantees

Join us to learn more about ODE’s efforts to develop a continuous quality improvement process (CQIP) for 21st CCLC programs across the state. AIR will provide a brief overview of work to-date as well as plans for the future. This is the first step in a reflection and feedback process for program directors and site coordinators.

What role do you play in conflict situations with the youth in your program? Do you know how to turn a conflict situation into an opportunity for growth? 1:30pm  B19 Science Inquiry in Elementary Afterschool Programs

Join us for a hands-on, minds-on session to explore the engineering design process with activities in the S.INQ curriculum. This nine-week inquiry and exploration-based curriculum examines the science of engineering design and applies STEM concepts. This session is for 21 st CCLC professionals who work with elementary students. 
 1:30pm B20 Strategies to Reverse Youth Technology Addiction

Our youth are spending more time on smartphones, tablets, gaming, and computers. Teachers and parents are growing increasingly concerned about how all this "screen time" will affect them. We will explore how to help our youth practice self-control and unplug from unhealthy distractions, technology’s relationship to the developing human brain, physical/social/emotional signs of screen-time addiction, the importance of adults modeling healthy behavior, and resources to develop Family Media Plans for home or school use.
