Nuts & Bolts: You Can Make a Difference in Oregon's Graduation Rate!

Oregon has a low graduation rate compared to other states: The 3rd-lowest in the US according to recent news. Oregon’s 21st CCLC programs are perfectly positioned to make a real difference. Oregon’s 21st CCLC program currently funds 20 High schools and 21 Middle Schools. We want to help improve College and Career Readiness by working effectively to support student success opportunities. A contributing factor to Oregon’s high rates of chronic absenteeism is partially due to a lack of availability of career-related resources and options for students. In contrast, when students join even a few CTE-related courses, their chances of graduating increase greatly.

ODE plans to support all 21st CCLC grantees serving grades 6-12 to develop robust evidence-based practices and resources to help in this College and Career Readiness challenge. This is a perfect opportunity for 21st CCLC to become a powerful catalyst. This challenge is big for us as providers -- but for students we serve, who may lack opportunities, it’s overwhelming.

How to Get Involved

Next Steps

We ask all 21st CCLC grantee sites serving students grades 6-12 complete this survey thoughtfully, carefully and soon!

We need to learn what’s in place, what’s missing, what you need to learn and know and how we can support you in this essential work. Your responses really help in this major need for Oregon’s present and future. This will give us (& your teams) valuable information as a foundation to help us help you to build together the College & Career Readiness functions that suit your areas of need and student priorities: statewide.

Please take the time to complete the survey-- soon -- and if you have any questions -- contact Pete Ready at the Oregon Department of Education. pete.ready@state.or.us
