The 2015 Oregon Legislature enacted rules that fund Summer Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that serve Middle School (MS) and High School (HS) students. These state-funded opportunities may complement 21st CCLC currently approved CTE activities. This new project prioritizes historically under served students as participants who will be provided CTE “on-ramps” toward working in high-wage, high demand occupations
These new (state-funded) regional grants will benefit School Districts, ESDs and non-profit organizations.
- For MS students, programs will increase students’ awareness of and interest in approved CTE Programs of Study. MS students could participate in 2 one-week summer sessions.
- For HS students, the focus is to influence student interest by providing summer CTE summer experiences through industry connections through existing CTE programs. High School students would participate in 2 two-week summer sessions.
ODE wants to (1) share this information with you and (2) get your input how these summer programs may support your 21st CCLC CTE MS and HS CTE program opportunities plus both promote and expand CTE connections.
Tom Thompson, ODE CTE Industrial and Engineering Systems specialist, will briefly share details about this CTE summer opportunity (10 minutes), answer your questions and get your input on how this CTE opportunity could connect well to 21st CCLC grantees (15 minutes).
