January 15, 2016
TRI's Serra Acar, and Patricia Blasco, joined ODE's Mandy Stanley in a presentation titled, Executive Function and Social Emotional Development: Understanding the Relationship.
Executive
Function and Social Emotional Development: Understanding the Relationship
This session provided families and professionals with activities and strategies that support components of Executive Function (EF) that relate to Social and Emotional development for children, birth to three, with diverse abilities. Drs. Blasco and Acar provided information on how components can be identified, and strategies for teaching young children across environments. Participants learned how to integrate key components of EF into everyday routines and activities.
Participants left with an understanding of EF and how it impacts a child’s social and emotional developmental trajectory based on research. They also had a chance to practice and select strategies to strengthen EF skills (self-regulation, working memory, inhibit/emotional control, shifting, planning and organizing) that impact child’s social and emotional development.Understanding Sensory Integration
TRI's Amber Ryerson also presented with ODE's Mandy Stanley at The Head Start Parent Partnership Conference. The session was titled, Understanding Sensory Integration.
The session focused on providing parenting educators with tools and resources on communicating with parents on behavior concerns that might come up in the classroom or at home that relate to sensory needs in young children. Ryerson and Stanley took participants through an exploration of strategies and resources to support parents of children with sensory needs.
